Davao City men's basketball coach Cholo Elegino of the Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) said Monday they just played aggressively that's why they gained a huge advantage early on.

"It was fun. The players just enjoyed the game. They cherished the moment that they were together. We are excited to represent the region to the national finals," he said.

The men's cage team was led by Ateneo's Miguel Solitaria, Richard Madelo, Jarius Lloyd Guingguing and Martin Allan Gadia with reinforcements Eugene Torres of Agro Sailors, NJ Pinto of Holy Cross Crusaders and Arnold Adormeo of UM.

"I will acquire the services of two players from Davao del Sur to beef up our team for the national meet," Eligino said.

UM's Crisanthemum "Ining" Sarabia, meanwhile, said: "We have a very strong women's basketball line-up this time. We stand a very good chance in the nationals if all of the players make it. Our concern with the national meet, it falls during schooldays. The players will miss classes for a week or so."

In men's athletics, Davao City harvested a total of 38 gold medals, 11 silvers and six bronzes followed by Davao del Norte with two golds, 21 silvers and six bronzes in second and Davao del Sur with two silvers and three bronzes in third.

In the distaff side, Davao City tracksters collected 38 golds, 17 silvers and one bronze. The 1-0-3 Davao del Norte and 0-0-3 Davao del Sur placed second and third, respectively.

Over at the UM diamond, Davao City trounced Davao del Norte, 16-3, for the women's softball gold.

Davao City copped the men's and women's volleyball golds over Davao del Norte teams with similar 3-0 wins in the finals.

But Davao del Norte bounced back with sweeping victories in men's and women's beach volleyball in Punta Dumalag.

In sepak takraw, Davao City nipped Davao del Norte, 2-1.

Top regional performers will advance to the National Ched Meet set on Feb. 22 to 28 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila. (MLSA)
